My name is Carmen Lofland. (I'm the lady in blue in the front), surrounded by my family in this picture when we were in California for my sister Gabi's graduation. (Gabi is the lady on the far left with her arm around my brother Robbie).
I'm an autistic adult, 27 years old, and living and working in Colorado Springs at Poor Richard's Restaurant. I live in a townhouse at 24th and Uintah near Old Colorado City with other adults on the autistic spectrum
My Mom, Jeannie Barresi, (in the yellow jacket on the far right), died very suddenly of a pulmonary embolism in January 2016, 8 months after this picture was taken.
My dad, Doug Lofland, (with the beard in the center of the picture), who many of you will know as the organizer of the Meetup Group, Beer and Conversation for Adults and Professionals Over 50 in Colorado Springs, started to get me out of the house to live independently in November 2017
My dad and my brother Robbie, (in the black shirt to the left) in the picture, and my sister Gabi, have done a lot to support me in my effort to become independent, but they've not been able to do it all as my sister Gabi has very heavy college tuition bills remaining
I work a few hours every week at Poor Richard's, and I live very simply and frugally, but even with that and my monthly SSI, it's not enough to cover all the bills associated with my transition to independent living, as I've fallen behind by approximately $7500.
I would benefit enormously through your support of my transition to independent living, and would be ever so grateful for your support of my efforts
Once I cover these amounts in arrears, which is the purpose of this campaign, I will be able to maintain coverage of my future bills, as I hope to increase my work hours and start putting my own money away for my future
I need to cover this amount by January 1, so your earliest consideration of this campaign would be very much appreciated.
