Hi, we are the Plewses: Kai and Rachel and our kids Dex, Ren, Gus, Leo, and Asa.

As many of you know, in June of 2020 Leo was diagnosed with Spindle Cell Rhabdomyosarcoma in his right eye orbit. He underwent surgery to remove the tumor and had chemotherapy and radiation. He finished treatment in December of 2020 and has had almost 3 years of clear scans.

Unfortunately, in May of 2023 we noticed his eye was begining to swell again. We checked in with our amazing teams at University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital and began tests to see what was causing the swelling. His MRI on May 11th showed another tumor, this time behind his right eye and pushing on his optic nerve causing eye swelling, vision loss, headaches, and nausea. He had a biopsy of the tumor on May 19th and started chemotherapy on May 22nd.

His chemotherapy this time will be 54 weeks in addition to radiation and surgery to remove his tumor and mostly likely his eye. Because this treatment protocol is so much more aggressive and involves more in-patient stays each month, Kai and Rachel will lose a significant amount of work over the next year. We are setting up this GoFundMe in order to help with his medical costs and to help cover our needs as we support Leo in his treatment.

Thank you all for your love and support throughtout this 3 year journey. We are devastated to be here again but the caring and kindness you have shown our family has lifted us up in ways we cannot even describe. Thank you for all you do for our family and encouraging Leo as he starts this journey again. We are going to keep moving forward and as Leo says, "It's game on Cancer."
