My name is Harper Nance.
Right now, I’m going into my freshman year. A lot is changing, but so have I.
Over the past few years, I have struggled with anorexia, anxiety, and other mental health issues. My eating disorder nearly killed me, both mentally and physically. It really sucked the life out of me. But now, I’m slowly getting my spark back. Having an eating disorder is a very surreal experience.
My goal is to try to be more present and live my life to the fullest! I have always loved Japan—the culture, the environment, the history, the everything. So, you can imagine my excitement when I heard about a school trip to Japan. Tsuruta, Japan, is my town’s sister city, which makes the trip even more meaningful.
For the last 50 years, our towns have sent students and culture back and forth. Earlier this year, we had a few Japanese exchange students come to our middle school. During this time, I met Sora, and we immediately clicked. We text as much as we can, although the time difference makes it difficult. So most of all, I’m excited to see my friend again.
This is why I am starting this GoFundMe, to help raise funds for my school trip to Japan.
