Before his detention, my elderly grandmother's husband was seriously injured while working a construction job. His employer did not provide Workers’ Compensation or any protection after the injury. My grandad stood up for himself and legally sued his employer — and he won his case. However, before the process could be finalized, his former boss reportedly contacted ICE and provided his home address. Shortly after, my grandad was detained. His former employer then notified the civil courts that my grandad could no longer attend hearings, seemingly hoping the case would be dismissed so he wouldn’t have to pay for the injury he caused.

This fundraiser is not about debating immigration. It’s about justice. It’s about ensuring that a hardworking man who was injured on the job is not silenced or taken advantage of by someone trying to avoid responsibility. My granddad worked in this county for over 35 years and he has always paid taxes. In fact he just paid over $30,000 in taxes in the last few years. He is the definition of a hardworking traditional husband, who only works and then goes back home to his wife. He has never had any problems with the law, not even a speeding ticket to his name.

We are raising money to hire an attorney and secure a bond so my grandad can be released and continue fighting his case. He deserves the opportunity to defend himself and to pursue the compensation he rightfully won.
