At My First Bird, we dedicate our days to caring for parrots and other companion birds — from hand-raising babies to helping rehome those in need. Recently, we had a heartbreaking situation that showed us just how important an emergency fund can be.

On a freezing morning, someone left a very sick canary outside our store in temperatures below 40°F. There was no call or warning — just a tiny, shivering bird left at our door. We rushed her to the vet and started treatment immediately, but despite our efforts, she passed away two days later. We decided to name her “Halo”.

After sharing her story, many of our customers reached out asking how they could help. Several suggested creating a donation fund to support any future bird emergencies — whether it’s vet care for an abandoned bird, disease testing for surrenders, or medication for sick rescues that come our way.

This fund will help ensure that when another bird needs urgent help, we can act immediately — without hesitation and without having to worry about cost first. Every dollar goes directly toward emergency veterinary care, medication, and recovery support for birds in crisis.
