My name is Caroline, and I am reaching out for support as I work to complete my Master's degree in Secondary Science Education with a focus on Chemistry. I am finalizing my coursework but also have been teaching high school fulltime. Your support will not only help me complete my degree, but also allow me to keep making a positive impact in the classroom. Thank you for your donation and for believing in the power of education! Every little bit will help me complete this step and focus my efforts on the classroom.
After years of working as a consulting geologist, I made the decision to leave my career and dedicate myself to teaching. This transition came with a significant pay cut, but I knew it was the right choice to make a difference in the lives of young people.
I am now in the final semester of a Master's of education program, with just four Science Education courses left to complete. The funds raised will go directly toward my tuition ($4K) and related expenses, helping me cross the finish line and continue teaching in the Tucson Public School District with Secondary Chemistry Expert Certification.
I am passionate about supporting my Freshmen STEM students as they grow, mature, and discover their potential—especially during these challenging times for teenagers. I am also fortunate to work in a science department filled with professionals who, like me, have left expert-level careers to teach and inspire our youth.

After 30 years as an Exploration Geologist and Spatial Scientist in the consulting business, I found myself feeling unfulfilled working in a cubicle. My lifelong excitement for exploration and science led me to geology, but teaching has always been my true passion. During the COVID pandemic, I made the life-changing decision to switch careers and enrolled in a Master's of Education program through WGU, which is designed to help experts in their field become experts in the classroom.
I originally enrolled in the three-year program, but I quickly jumped into service teaching in the high school system to help bring public education back to life at a critical time following COVID. I am now certified as an Earth Science Expert in Arizona and have directed my WGU curriculum toward becoming an expert in Secondary Chemistry Education. This program has required me to take on the full workload of an undergraduate education degree, along with the necessary credentials, and now, in my final academic courses, I am working on graduate-level education courses that will qualify me for a Master's degree and Secondary Science Expert Certification.
Currently, I am teaching my third year of high school and am already on the books for a fourth. The pay cut I accepted to switch to public school teaching, combined with paying for this degree out of pocket, has put a financial strain on my daily life. However, I am nearly through this journey and am incredibly proud of the progress I have made. I know that my WGU education has helped me earn the 'Distinguished Teacher' evaluation last year. Any support you can offer will help me cover my final tuition and living expenses, allowing me to focus on completing my degree and continuing to inspire students as a science educator. Thank you for believing in me and supporting my mission to make a difference in education.
