Hi Everyone, my name is Peerada Liewchanpatana /Mulan and I’m fundraising to help my family in Hatyai, Thailand, after our home was severely flooded and damaged by the recent flash floods. These photos were taken by my family a day ago. I have currently lost contact with them, as the phone lines and electricity are down. The water is still rising and conditions are continuing to worsen.

The helplessness of not being able to speak to my family or know whether they have enough food or clean water terrifies me. My dad, who is 68, my aunt and uncle who are in their late seventies, and my 16-year-old brother are all trapped inside the house. It pains me to imagine what they are going through. I had planned to go home for New Year’s, but now I don’t know how or when. Being far away in London while watching my family struggle through this has been incredibly painful. I feel powerless knowing I can’t be there to support them physically.

As someone who aspires to be an architect, I know that a home is more than just a building. Our family home is a physical manifestation of my safe space and comfort zone. It’s the warmth of the lights in the evening, the smell of incense drifting from our altar, the sound of my dad’s footsteps coming down the stairs in the morning, the smell of Thai omelette filling the house, and the quiet comfort of knowing everyone I love is right there.

My second home is my dad’s clinic, which is also our main source of income. My dad is an incredibly altruistic person who works selflessly for the people of Hatyai every day, often offering free medical care to those who can’t afford it. The clinic holds so much value to our community, and it pains me to think about the cost it will take to repair the equipment, furniture, and the space itself.

The flood has severely damaged both our home and clinic.

Any amount, truly any amount, will help my family restore our home and repair the clinic so they can recover safely and get back on their feet. If donations exceed what we need for our own repairs, any additional funds will be used to support local neighbours and nearby families in Hatyai who have also been affected by the flood. So many homes around us are underwater too, and we want to pass forward any help we receive.

หนูกำลังระดมทุนเพื่อช่วยครอบครัวที่หาดใหญ่ หลังจากบ้านของเราได้รับความเสียหายอย่างหนักจากน้ำท่วมฉับพลันครั้งล่าสุด ภาพทั้งหมดนี้ถ่ายโดยครอบครัวเมื่อวานนี้ ตอนนี้หนูไม่สามารถติดต่อกับที่บ้านได้เลย เพราะไฟและสัญญาณโทรศัพท์ถูกตัด น้ำยังคงเพิ่มขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ และสถานการณ์แย่ลงทุกชั่วโมง

ความรู้สึกที่ไม่สามารถโทรหาครอบครัว หรือแม้แต่รู้ว่าพวกเขามีอาหารหรือมีน้ำสะอาดพอหรือไม่นั้นมันน่ากลัวมากค่ะ พ่อของหนูอายุ 68 ปี ป้าและลุงอายุเกือบ 80 และน้องชายวัย 16 ต้องติดอยู่ในบ้านด้วยกันทั้งหมด หนูเจ็บปวดใจมากเวลาคิดว่าพวกเขากำลังเผชิญอะไรอยู่ เดิมทีหนูตั้งใจจะกลับไทยช่วงปีใหม่ แต่ตอนนี้ไม่รู้เลยว่าจะกลับได้เมื่อไหร่ หรือบ้านจะเป็นอย่างไรเมื่อหนูกลับไป การอยู่ไกลในลอนดอนแล้วเห็นครอบครัวลำบากแบบนี้มันทรมานมาก และรู้สึกหมดหนทางเพราะไม่สามารถอยู่ตรงนั้นเพื่อช่วยพวกเขาได้จริง ๆ

ในฐานะคนที่อยากเป็นสถาปนิก หนูรู้ดีว่าบ้านคือมากกว่าสิ่งปลูกสร้าง แต่เป็นพื้นที่แห่งความทรงจำและความปลอดภัยของเรา บ้านหลังนี้คือความอบอุ่นของแสงไฟยามเย็น กลิ่นธูปจากหิ้งพระ เสียงฝีเท้าพ่อเดินลงบันไดตอนเช้า กลิ่นไข่เจียวหอม ๆ ลอยมาจากครัว และความสบายใจที่ได้รู้ว่าทุกคนที่รักอยู่พร้อมหน้ากันใต้หลังคาเดียวกัน

บ้านหลังที่สองของเราก็คือคลินิกของพ่อ ซึ่งเป็นรายได้หลักของครอบครัว พ่อเป็นคนที่มีน้ำใจมากและรักษาคนไข้ในหาดใหญ่แบบเสียสละเสมอ บางครั้งก็รักษาให้ฟรีสำหรับคนที่ไม่มีเงิน คลินิกแห่งนี้มีความหมายต่อชุมชนอย่างมาก และหนูเจ็บปวดใจที่คิดถึงค่าซ่อมแซมและการเปลี่ยนอุปกรณ์การแพทย์ เฟอร์นิเจอร์ และของใช้ต่าง ๆ ที่เสียหายจากน้ำท่วมครั้งนี้

น้ำท่วมได้สร้างความเสียหายอย่างหนักทั้งกับบ้านและคลินิก พื้น ผนัง และเฟอร์นิเจอร์ทั้งหมดจมน้ำ ระบบไฟฟ้าต้องซ่อมใหม่ อุปกรณ์และตู้ต่าง ๆ ในคลินิกได้รับความเสียหาย และพื้นที่ทั้งหมดต้องได้รับการทำความสะอาด ตากแห้ง และฆ่าเชื้อหลังน้ำลด

ไม่ว่าจะเป็นจำนวนเงินเท่าไหร่ หนูก็ขอบคุณจากใจจริงค่ะ ทุกบาททุกสตางค์จะถูกนำไปใช้ซ่อมบ้านและคลินิก เพื่อให้ครอบครัวกลับมาอยู่ได้อย่างปลอดภัยอีกครั้ง

และถ้ายอดบริจาคเกินกว่าที่ครอบครัวต้องใช้ หนูจะนำเงินส่วนที่เหลือไปช่วยเพื่อนบ้านและครอบครัวอื่น ๆ ในชุมชนหาดใหญ่ที่ได้รับผลกระทบจากน้ำท่วมด้วยค่ะ บ้านรอบ ๆ เราหลายหลังจมน้ำเหมือนกัน และเราจะแบ่งปันความช่วยเหลือเท่าที่เราทำได้
