"Support my education" - Eun from North Korea
Eun is from North Korea and since her escape, she has been building a brighter future for herself and her daughters in the UK. CNK is running this page to support vocational scholarships for North Korean people like her this year.
"I’m so happy to be starting my journey at Kingston College this autumn to prepare and study for my GCSEs and I hope this will open doors for me to become a nurse in the future. Then I’ll be able to help everybody in my community and be an inspiration for other North Korean people to achieve their goals.
But, I need your help to make this a reality. Studying at college means I don’t have as much time to work or look after my daughters, meaning less money coming in and more money going out for childcare. That’s why I’ve set up this page with the charity Connect: North Korea to raise money from kind people who want to help me attend my classes this year.
When I arrived in the UK I knew absolutely no English. Not even the alphabet. Even simple things like opening a bank account were totally unknown to me. So I started on my journey studying English eight years ago but having to look after my babies meant I didn’t have time to learn any more subjects. Now, they’re a little bit older, it’s the perfect time to study hard.
I had no qualifications from my life in North Korea because the education system there focuses mostly on furthering the Kim family. I had also never learned beyond basic maths as a child, but I’ve really enjoyed learning maths and know this GCSE will be very important to become a nurse.
People might take for granted being able to study for their GCSEs - but for me, it has a lot of meaning. It will give me a chance to learn, build confidence, and take my new knowledge forward into any job I choose. Most importantly I will then be able to help my own daughters with their schoolwork and make sure they are successful in their lives too."
If you can help, please consider donating to this page. Any money raised from this page will support our vocational scholarships, helping more North Korean people like Eun. Thank you!
