Hi everyone! My name is Gabrielle Valencia.
This summer, I’ve been given an opportunity that still feels a little unreal. I’ve been selected to represent Team USA at the U21 Deaf Basketball World Championship in Lublin, Poland.
I’m currently a junior in high school at California School for the Deaf, Riverside, and basketball has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of a ball in my hands, learning the game, and watching my family—who inspired my love for basketball—show me what dedication and passion really look like. Playing internationally has always been a dream of mine, and being able to follow in my family’s footsteps makes this moment even more meaningful.
Basketball has taught me confidence, teamwork, and perseverance, and it’s given me a place where communication goes beyond words. Wearing a Team USA jersey isn’t just about competing—it’s about representing my family, my community, and everyone who has supported me along the way.
Traveling overseas and competing internationally comes with expenses, and I can’t do this alone. I’m asking for support from family and friends to help cover the costs of this trip so I can focus on doing what I love and representing my country with pride.
Thank you for being part of my journey, for believing in me, and for helping me take this once-in-a-lifetime step. No matter the amount, your support truly means everything to me.
