안녕하세요! (Hello!), my name is Rue Sanders and I am a Multimedia major at Portland Community College. I’ve been accepted into a Film Studies Study Abroad program in South Korea for Summer 2026. I’m raising funds to help cover tuition, program fees, travel, and living expenses. This opportunity means so much to me because it gives me a chance to immerse myself in a new culture, connect with native Korean speakers through the language I’ve been learning, gain inspiration from talented filmmakers, and move closer to my dreams. I’ve always been passionate about film, and this program will help me grow both personally and professionally. As I enter the film and media world — whether as a cinematographer, director, music video creator, or multi-creative visionary — I’m currently discovering my lane. But I truly believe this program will broaden my perspective far beyond what I’ve known in Oregon.
Studying film in South Korea is a rare, life-changing opportunity. This opportunity will help me learn new filmmaking approaches, new teaching styles, new storytelling tools, new insights from collaborating with other students, fresh ideas to share with my community upon return, and new ways of seeing myself. It will build my confidence, my skillset, and my belief that I can pursue big dreams, not just imagine them.
As a Black woman and as someone who is naturally introverted, this journey is bold, and that’s exactly why it matters. It’s proof to myself that I can step into the world fully. It will be a personal victory. This experience will help me realize that I am capable of building the life I dream about. A dream I’m turning into reality one step at a time. Any contribution, no matter the size, would mean so much and would help make this life-changing opportunity a reality. Thank you for considering being part of this journey with me.
