Hi everyone,
I’m starting the BS in Dental Hygiene program at Oxnard College this Fall, and I’ve run into a financial barrier I wasn’t expecting.
The program requires all students to purchase a specialized instrument kit at the start of the semester - it costs $8,000, and it’s essential for clinical work.
I’ve been awarded a Pell Grant and federal student loans, but since I’m a first-time borrower, there’s a federally required 30-day delay before I can access any of my loan money. That means I have to find a way to pay the full $7,807 upfront before aid is released.
I understand many people have more serious or urgent needs than I do, and I’m not trying to take away from anyone else’s situation. I’m just asking for help to cover this one-time, early expense so I can move forward with my training and hopefully give back as a future dental hygienist.
Thanks so much for reading!
