Support My D.C. Leadership Trip!

Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Yeheira Acosta, and I’m reaching out for your support to help me attend the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) on National Security in Washington, D.C., this summer. I was recently selected to join this program based on my academic achievements, community involvement, and passion for STEM and cybersecurity. I’m so excited about this opportunity and would be incredibly grateful for your help in making it happen!

My Journey So Far

Involvement in School, Church, and Community

I’m a junior at Cumberland County Technical Education Center (CCTEC), where I’m deeply involved in school activities and leadership roles. I’m part of the National Honor Society, a member of the Academy Varsity team, and serve as an IT Ambassador, where I help promote technology and encourage others to explore STEM.

The past year, I was honored to be part of the Governor’s STEM Scholars program, which has been an incredible journey. As a STEM Scholar, I’ve attended three conferences that opened my eyes to how STEM is applied in real-world settings. At United Airlines in Newark, I learned how technology enhances airport operations and how planes are built. At Bristol Myers Squibb, I saw how product improvements are made to benefit consumers. At Princeton University, I met Nobel laureate Dr. David W.C. MacMillian and was inspired by seeing women lead chemistry experiments in the labs.

One of my favorite moments was a “Speed Networking” session at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where I got to ask STEM professionals about their careers and learned how they use STEM to solve challenges in their industries. I left feeling inspired to find my passion in STEM, make connections, and pursue a path that brings me joy.

In my research group, we’re working on an AI project to detect melanoma across different skin tones. My experience with Python coding has helped me contribute to our project, and I’m applying skills like project management, creativity, and problem-solving as we develop and finalize our research. This entire experience has been eye-opening and has solidified my goal of building a future in technology.

Alongside my schoolwork, I’m also committed to my community, volunteering in my church and helping out wherever I can.

A Chance to Grow and Learn from Experts
Attending the NYLF on National Security would be a huge step toward my dream of a cybersecurity and national security career. The program offers an eight-day experience where I can learn from experts, participate in real-world simulations, and visit critical institutions like the U.S. Department of State and the Pentagon. I know this experience will help me grow personally and professionally, and I’m eager to bring back everything I learn to my school and community.

How You Can Help

Supporting My Journey with a $6,000 Goal
The tuition for the program is $4,395, and additional expenses for travel, accommodations, and other necessities bring the total to around $6,000. My family and I are doing everything we can, but we could use extra help to make this possible. Every donation, no matter the size, brings me one step closer to attending and learning from this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Thank You
