Hello! My name is Alexander, and I am honored to share that I have been accepted into The Fund for American Studies summer internship program in Washington, D.C. This competitive opportunity will allow me to spend the summer in our nation’s capital gaining hands-on experience in the fields I am passionate about: law, politics, and immigration.
As the son of persevering Mexican immigrants, my decision to pursue immigration law is deeply personal. I was raised in the Latino community and have witnessed firsthand the challenges many families face when navigating our legal system. My goal is to become an immigration attorney so I can advocate for underrepresented communities and help expand opportunities for families like my own.
As a first-generation, first-year college student, I have worked relentlessly to create opportunities for myself. I graduated high school at the top of my class while earning my Associate’s degree, determined to pursue my aspiration of becoming an attorney. This program represents my next major step toward becoming the first lawyer in my family.
Through TFAS, I will complete a required 3-credit economics course at George Mason University while participating in a guaranteed internship with an NGO, congressional office, or think tank. This experience will allow me to build professional connections, strengthen my understanding of public policy, and gain practical experience in the legal and political fields.
Although I have been fortunate to receive a scholarship, I am still responsible for additional program expenses, housing, travel, and food costs. My fundraising goal is $7,000 to cover two months in Washington, D.C.
Your support will help make this opportunity possible and allow me to focus fully on learning, growing, and representing my community. Any contribution, no matter the amount, would mean more than I can express. Thank you for helping me take this important step toward my future.
