I am a mother of three, and both of my youngest children have been diagnosed with sickle cell disease. Over the past few years, our family has faced many challenges as we navigate the complexities of this illness. My son underwent a bone marrow transplant in 2023, and we are so grateful that it was successful. Unfortunately, my daughter’s first transplant last year did not work, and now she is preparing for her second bone marrow transplant. This time, she will also need chemotherapy and radiation in hopes of curing her sickle cell disease.

My oldest daughter has been the donor for all three transplants, and her strength and generosity have been a true blessing to our family. As we prepare for another long hospital stay, I am doing everything I can to support my children and keep our family together. The costs of travel, food, and bills quickly add up, especially since I will need to take two months off work without any income while caring for my daughter during her admission.
