My name is Keira and im asking for any assistance for my dad. My dad Kayle is a hard working family man who always puts us first.
He has had a few medical setbacks in the past but has always come through. Last month(February)he had a rare form of an eye infection and went to his Dr who noticed swollen lymph nodes on his neck and face. He ordered an urgent ultrasound, followed by FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration-Biopsy). The intial results had a few malignancies which they needed to investigate further, so the samples were sent from Cairns to Brisbane. The pressure of the swollen lymph nodes on his face and neck had him in pain but he had the Dr clear him for work. The first day he returned to work he slipped on the step plate of his vehicle sustaining an injury which required him being transported via ambulance from work to emergency. The next day he went to his Dr to start the road to recovery. Workcover were notified and a claim put in place. The Dr advised that a CT scan be performed and further to that an injury of this source would take some time to recover from. The diagnosis is a lower lumbar bulge which is pushing onto nerves causing pains pushing into his buttocks and right leg making everyday life activities extremely difficult to perform. Fast forward a bit and workcover rejected his claim for rehabilitation and assistance based on a technicality. My dad has appealed this but the process takes over a month to even get to the next step. He had a follow up appointment today and has to have physio and be put in stronger pain medication, the problem is with him not working since the beginning of February with his other health issues, his savings have been depleted. He also received news today at his drs appointment that his biopsy samples sent to Brisbane have been contaminated and he has to have another biopsy done. This should be covered by the Radiologist or Pathologist as it was their stuff up, but we will only know once we reschedule an appointment.
If dad could go back to work tomorrow he would but the Dr wont clear him until he is fully fit due to liabilities.
Although my mum works and we help out with expenses, my dad is the breadwinner and main contributor to the household. I am appealing for any assistance to help him with medical expenses not covered by medicare and no longer covered by workcover, as well as assistance with everyday life expenses like transport and household costs. He is a proud man and doesnt want any of us doing this but he is also struggling so i thought if i could get some form of assistance that would lessen his burden it would help.
Any donations big or small will go to supporting him in his short and long term recovery or at least until he gets his appeal approved.
P.S.: he has tried applying for an early release of his Super but got rejected as he doesnt meet the criteria.
He has also applied for income insurance through his super policy but this has a 30 day waiting period and then pay is made 30 days in arrears so 60 days all up.
He has also applied for support from Centrelink but there isnt much support for NZ citizens in Australia.
He has also had help from a couple of close friends and family over the pass couple of weeks not expecting Workcover to reject his claim.
Please help.
