I’m raising funds for my 38-year-old brother after he was struck by a car while walking home from the store on October 1 around 8:15. He made it across the street to the store, but on the way back he was hit so hard that he had to undergo emergency surgery. His right femur was broken, and he was also severely bruised. The driver did not stop right away, and after coming back to look at him, left the scene without making a report.
What makes this even harder is that my brother is mentally challenged and had only just regained the ability to walk after a major medical crisis. He had been on life support because of respiratory failure and was kind of in a coma. After not walking for over a month, he had finally gotten his mobility back. Now, after this accident, he is afraid of losing that mobility all over again. He is having a hard time sleeping, and right now he really can’t walk.
Watching him suffer has been heartbreaking for our family and has caused so much pain for the people who love him. It breaks my heart to see him go through this after everything he has already been through.
We still do not know how many more surgeries he may need, and the medical bills are already more than we can handle alone. The funds from this fundraiser will help pay for his medical expenses and for an electric scooter that he knows how to ride, so he can have some safe mobility while he recovers.
We need help as soon as possible. Any donation, no matter the amount, would mean so much to my brother and our family during this painful time. If you are not able to give, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping him in your thoughts.
