Support my attendance to Sweet Death Premier!

Ten years ago, I started to make the film that would eventually become Sweet Death. I knew something of Exit International and the work of Dr Philip Nitschke, but as I got to know him better my interest developed in 2 unique, but inter-related ways:

 

Firstly, I was curious about something that Philip called the Mexican option: where elderly people travel to Mexican cities like Tijuana to buy the lethal drug Nembutal.

 

Via Exit I was introduced to 81-year old (in 2015) Kathy from Eastbourne. Kathy wanted to travel to Tijuana to source drugs and I was allowed to film her trip. As a Mexican film maker this topic was intensely interesting.

 

My second fascination was with Philip’s Edinburgh Fringe stand-up comedy show called ‘Dicing with Dr Death’. When we met he was about to premiere the show. I was intrigued as to why this medical doctor and euthanasia activist would change career course in such a dramatic way and try something new.

 

Sweet Death is the product of the best part of a decade’s work.

I am very grateful for the support of actor Viggo Mortensen (Lord of the Rings, Green Book) as executive producer, a development which allowed the film to be completed.

 

The funding for this film has been in fits and starts: as it is not a Mexican film, nor Australian, nor English. It is international. This has had implications for how it has been funded but I always, truly believe that everyone has the right to live a quality life until the end so I never gave up in finishing the project.

 

I am very pleased that the film has been selected for competition at the Ierapetra Documentary Film Festival this August. I am equally pleased that 91-year old Kathy as well as Dr Philip Nitschke will be able to attend!

 

My problem is that it is crazy expensive to travel from Mexico City to Crete in Greece in the summer holiday period.

 

Because I have no disposable income for this at the current time and I support my only child Kai, I am sending out this plea, I am seeking money for my flight from Mexico and hotel.

I send you an honest and huge thanks for your generosity.I still believe that there is more good than bad in this crazy world but bad news have always been more juicy.

My first film was a feature starring Douglas Smith, Zoe Kravitz and Carrie Ann Moss (The Matrix) Known by 2 names: ‘The Boy who Smelled like Fish’ and ‘Treading Water’.

This film premiered at the Miami International Film Festival back in 2013 and won best script in the WIFTS Awards (Women International Film and TV Showcase)
