I'm trying to raise money for an Animation studio based in Rochester, NY. The goal is to create jobs with the talent from the city, specifically attempting to partner with art schools or schools with art programs in the area, high schools, and colleges, where they can get education and training with guaranteed jobs when they graduate. Most importantly, jobs where they can express the creativity that they spent years honing in their majors, and actually be able to make a livable wage and thrive doing what they love. Schools like SOTA, Renaissance Academy, RIT, Nazareth, and more.
Honestly, there is too much talent in Rochester for this not to already be a thing, but I haven't found a program like it yet, which is why I'm trying to start it. I can't speak for all of the programs, but I know that from my personal experience, there weren't a lot of opportunities for me to pursue my interest in animation in Rochester. I had to learn through trial and error, and if I wanted to make it a viable career, the only options were to move out of state, which I know isn't tangible for everyone. There weren't a lot of ways to even build the experience needed to obtain those jobs, even if they do desire to move across the country to work. These are issues that I want to correct, and not just for the visual artists interested in animation, but also giving the creative writers a new opportunity to tell their stories, those with an interest in theatre a chance to voice act and bring life to original characters, giving our musicians an outlet to compose and another platform to expose their music, with theatre tech majors for the sound design, photographers taking the reference photos, and dancers as the reference models.
Expanding everyone's experience and horizons and the jobs that it will create will be amazing for the community and to build the city up as a whole. It's already a city of the arts; it's time to bring it to the next level. This has always been a dream of mine, having an animation studio on the level of Disney or DreamWorks, and this is the best way I see to do so. But honestly, I don't care who does it, but I haven't seen it happen or anyone trying to support all the talent that Rochester has yet. I'm willing to work with, teach, and learn from anyone who genuinely wants to see this come true, for the good of everyone involved and to build a better future.
