A Boat for the Village of Mutum

The river took something essential.

A flood swept through Mutum, the Yawanawa village deep in the Brazilian Amazon, and destroyed many of the boats the community depends on.

In the Amazon, this isn’t a small thing.

The river is the highway. The boat is the only vehicle. Mutum sits seven hours upriver from the nearest town. There are no roads. No grocery stores. No backup plan. If you can’t fish it, hunt it, or grow it, you don’t eat. And without a boat, even those become impossible.

A boat in Mutum is never just one person’s. It moves food, medicine, and people through the village. It carries children to family and food from the river. It belongs to everyone, the way most things do there.

Mutum is the village we’ve returned to again and again. The people there are not abstract to us. They are the keepers of songs, prayers, and medicine that have shaped who we are today.

We’re raising $ 3,000 USD to help replace a boat and motor for our brother in the village. From there, the support will move where it’s most needed, the way things move in Mutum. Nothing is held by one. Everything passes through the whole.

The Yawanawa have carried songs, prayers, and medicine through generations the world nearly lost. This is one small way to give back.
