Moki was my sweet boy. The sweetest, silliest, kindest boy. He was made of love - all he wanted to DO was give love. To me, especially. He charmed everyone he met - on planes, at work, the chiropractor, the reservoir, in restaurants, NYC streets, on the beach... There wasn't a day that would go by without a stranger telling me how wonderful he was. One random man at the dog park once told me Moki was "the sweetest thug", which was the best, because it was so accurate. Tough when he needed to be, the biggest mush all other times. So gentle and playful with my baby nephews and friends' kids too, all of whom just adored him. If you met him, you loved him straightaway. But if you really knew him, lucky you.
It's been the biggest honor of my life to be his caretaker. We had five beautiful years of adventures together, and while it feels grossly unfair that he was taken away so soon by a sudden accident, I feel endlessly grateful for the time we got to share. I know how lucky I am to have been able to spend even a fraction of my life with such a special soul. It was and is a rare connection unlike anything I've ever experienced, and there will forever be a hole in my heart shaped just like my boy.
In honor of Moki, I'm raising funds for the wonderful foundation that brought us together. Muttscouts rescued Moki from an isle of dogs in Mexico (truly) and brought him all the way to Los Angeles to be mine. They focus on helping homeless, abused and abandoned dogs from Mexico and high kill shelters throughout Southern California. I know Moki would be so happy to see his spirit live on by helping to save other dogs who are in need, just like he once was. Once all the donations are finalized, I will make the full donation on his behalf. For more info, you can visit https://www.muttscouts.org/
For everyone in my life who got the chance to love Moki, or send their love to Moki, I thank you. I know he thanks you too. And if you have a memory or a thought about him you'd like to share with me, I'd love to hear it.
