I am fundraising for my 71-year-old single mother, Erica, who currently lives in pain 24/7. She urgently needs:
- TWO FULL KNEE replacements (this operation is already 10 years overdue and it’s been 20 years since her double partial knee replacements)
- ONE HIP replacement
- Ongoing physiotherapy, medication and massage therapy
The estimated total for both ops is $26,000 - that’s A LOT for a single mother and grandmother who should be retired but needs to work through the pain.
On top of this, Mum also manages and treats her:
- Multilevel spondylosis
- Lupus
- Diabetes
- Osteoporosis
- A lesion in her spine
- High blood pressure
- Cholesterol issues
- Her mental wellbeing alongside these conditions
As you can imagine, treating these health conditions comes at a large expense. Right now, Mum lives in constant, bone-on-bone pain. Simple things most of us don’t think about (walking to the kitchen, getting in and out of a chair, sleeping through the night), are exhausting and painful. Her mobility has declined dramatically, and with it, her independence.
As her daughter, it’s heartbreaking to watch someone who has given everything for her kids now struggle just to move. She lives in a retirement village alone. While it has some facilities that help with deteriorating mobility, it is still not enough for her complex conditions. Mum needs help.
These surgeries are not cosmetic or optional. They are life-changing and necessary. Without them, her condition will continue to deteriorate. With them, she has a real chance to:
- Walk without constant pain
- Regain her independence
- Improve her mental health
- Reduce the long-term complications that come from immobility
- Enjoy her later years with dignity
The funds raised will go directly towards:
- Surgical costs and hospital fees
- Anaesthetist and specialist fees
- Post-surgery rehabilitation and physiotherapy
- Ongoing medication and pain management
- Recovery support to ensure the best possible outcome
Every donation, no matter how small, will bring Mum one step closer to standing, walking, and living without relentless pain.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would mean just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read her story and for helping us give Mum the chance to reclaim her mobility and quality of life.
With gratitude,
Katie
