My name is Nory and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend Muhammed. All proceeds will go directly to him and his family.

This is my dear friend Muhammed. He is 23 years old and is the sole provider for his three siblings Omar (19), Binta (16), and Alfu (16) in Banjul, Gambia. They lost their parents in 2020 to COVID-19, and have since been living in constant uncertainty about housing, meals, and medical care. They were evicted this year in order to demolish their building, a serious financial and emotional strain on the family. Muhammed’s sister has also suffered from several serious medical problems that his family could not afford alone. Without their parents to care for support them, Muhammed has taken on all responsibility for his siblings.

Now, he is the one who needs someone to care for him. Muhammed injured his wrist and is in intense pain, making him unable to do many everyday tasks. He’s afraid that it might be permanently damaged, but treatment is so expensive that he hasn’t even been able to get painkillers. Muhammed takes care of everyone around him, but has neglected this injury because of family expenses and other responsibilities.

I have known Muhammed for a year and I can't think of anyone more deserving of a peaceful and comfortable life. He is a kind and generous person and has always made me feel loved and cared about. He is a devoted follower of Islam, and a caring brother and friend. I often get texts from him late at night and know he hardly sleeps, worrying about his siblings and their future. I know he feels intense pressure to keep them safe, and I don't want to see him to neglect himself for their sake. He wants more than anything to make something of himself and return to school, but without their basic needs met, he and his siblings are constantly on damage control. Let’s help them find the security and safety that will allow them to live!
