Support Mubashir Hussen After a Traumatic ICE Detention

On December 9th 2025, during what should have been a normal lunch break, our family experienced a terrifying and life-altering event that no one should ever endure, especially a United States citizen who was pleading to prove his identity.

While on his lunch break in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mubashir Hussen, a U.S. citizen, was stopped and violently detained by federal immigration agents. From the moment he was approached, Mubashir repeatedly stated that he is a U.S. citizen and begged to show his ID and passport. Despite this, agents refused to allow him to present his documents.

During the encounter, Mubashir was physically forced to the ground and placed in a headlock before being handcuffed. He was then taken to a federal building and held for a period of time before eventually being released. What should have been resolved immediately instead escalated into a frightening and humiliating detention. Mubashir was restrained, overpowered, and deprived of the opportunity to prove his citizenship, despite repeatedly asking to do so. Although Mubashir did not leave with visible injuries, the emotional, psychological, and physical effects have been severe and long-lasting.

Since the detention, my brother has experienced intense anxiety and fear in public spaces, difficulty sleeping and persistent stress, emotional exhaustion and ongoing back pain and chronic physical tension that began after being forced to the ground and pushed into a metal pole. His body continues to carry the impact of that moment, and his sense of safety has been deeply shaken.

This incident did not affect Mubashir alone. This affected our entire family. We watched him come home changed: more anxious, withdrawn, and in pain. The fear that this could happen again has created constant worry and emotional strain. Our family’s sense of security has been disrupted, and rebuilding that sense of safety has been difficult. No family should have to live with the fear that their loved one can be violently detained despite doing everything right.

No one should ever be pushed to the ground for asking to show proof of who they are. No one should be placed in a headlock for asserting their rights. No family should be left to carry the emotional aftermath alone.

We are raising funds to support Mubashir’s recovery, including: trauma-informed mental health therapy and counseling, Medical care for ongoing physical pain and stress-related symptoms and basic living and recovery-related expenses while he focuses on healing.

Healing from trauma takes time, care, and support. These funds will help Mubashir begin rebuilding his mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Mubashir has shared his experience through formal testimony and is pursuing accountability through appropriate legal channels. While that process continues, the harm he and our family are living with remains very real.

If you are able to donate, we are deeply grateful. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this page so others can help.

Thank you for standing with Mubashir and our family. We are stronger together!
