We are a group of passionate senior scholars from Howard University's Moorland-Spingarn Research Center (MSRC), embarking on a transformative journey to Ghana from May 12th to May 23rd, 2025. This 10-day Social Cultural Engagement Trip represents the culmination of our academic journey and a deeply personal exploration of our African heritage.

Our Purpose

From economics majors seeking to understand community wealth dynamics to journalists committed to authentic storytelling, from researchers examining racial constructs to individuals tracing their Caribbean roots, we are united by a shared passion for learning and connection. As MSRC scholars, we have dedicated years to studying African diaspora history, African American experiences, and global Black narratives. Our trip to Ghana is both an academic pilgrimage and a personal quest for cultural connection. Ghana is not just a destination for us, but a living archive of our collective history - a place where we can walk in the footsteps of our ancestors, engage with contemporary African societies, and bring back knowledge that will enrich our future scholarly and professional endeavors. This trip is more than a travel experience; it is a scholarly pilgrimage that will deepen our understanding of ourselves, our history, and our place in the global Black experience.

We aim to:

1. Engage with the African diaspora to enrich our understanding of MSRC's work
2. Deepen our knowledge of African American history and its continental connections
3. Celebrate our academic achievements while forging lasting ties with our ancestral homeland

Our Itinerary

Our journey will encompass three key locations in Ghana:

1. Accra: Delving into Ghanaian history at the University of Ghana
2. Kumasi: Immersing ourselves in Ghanaian culture through food, dance, and music
3. Cape Coast: Visiting the historic Elmina Castle for profound reflection on our ancestral past

Why We Need Your Support

We are seeking to raise $20,000 to help offset the costs of this transformative trip. Your contribution will support:

- Airfare
- Accommodations
- Local transportation
- Educational activities and cultural experiences

By supporting our journey, you're investing in the future of African and African American studies. Your contribution will help us bring back invaluable knowledge, experiences, and connections that will enrich our research and future careers.
