Bonjour!
My name is Ms. McCalvin and I am a middle school French teacher in Washington, D.C. As a French teacher, It has always been a dream of mine to be able to take my students on an immersive trip to a Francophone country. I am pleased to announce that we have partnered with EF tours and will be able to turn this dream into a reality- for a second time! In March of 2024, eight of my students and I traveled to Paris, France and it was the trip of a lifetime. This year, I am coordinating another trip to Paris in March of 2025 to get other students the opportunity to embark on this incredible experience. This is extremely exciting for them because not only will they able to turn their learning into a reality by putting their French language skills to the ultimate test, but they will have an opportunity to experience a culture and place completely different from their own.
Many of my students have never traveled outside of the country, and when I asked them to respond to the prompt: Why do you think traveling is important OR why do you want to travel to Paris, here were some of their responses:
"I want to travel to Paris because I want to experience something new and go out the country because I've never been out of the country and I want to experience and learn new things."
"I want to travel to Paris because I know it will be fun and I want to see the Eiffel Tower and other places and I know it'll be awesome."
"Going to Paris is important to me because I feel like I've actually learned French and I'd like to try it on an actual French person to see if I could fit in. Also, French is one of my favorite classes."
These were just a few out of many responses, but it's pretty safe to say that many of my students are interested in traveling to a different country and understand the value that this experience would bring them. This eagerness, excitement, and curiosity around traveling are important characteristics to instill in our young people as it will hopefully encourage them to grow into understanding, compassionate global citizens of the future.
