Hello everyone!
My name is Eugene Manu. I am a cancer researcher, but in this space and time, I am advocating for people who are less privileged than I am and want to support them. I am working with an NGO called DemiCare Foundation, an organization established to help cover medical costs for people with extreme medical conditions, such as Ms. Bukola Aderogba, a stage three breast cancer patient, who I am going to talk about.
Ms. Aderogba is a 42-year-old single mother with three children, and she is suffering from stage 3 breast cancer. Her diagnosis is ER and HER2-positive breast cancer. She has undergone eight chemotherapy sessions at Lagos State Teaching Hospital Ikeja Lagos under Dr. Olatunji [Female Oncologist]. However, the chemotherapy did not work for her, and she was advised to be placed immediately on a targeted therapy, which costs 4M Naira in two sessions to shrink the tumor [please check the photo of the patient].
Afterward, she would undergo a mastectomy to remove the breast. Mastectomy surgery costs 1.5M Naira. 6M Naira would support her post-surgery, children's tuition, living expenses, food, as well as her rent.
