We (obviously) never though that our first year as teachers of record would be in the midst of a global pandemic. Thinking about the way that school is going to look this year makes us feel emotional and anxious and so many other things. In an effort to limit risk of exposure, students who opt to learn in person will learn in the same classroom all day. This means that the energetic and growing 12-year-olds in our 7th grade class will have seriously restricted mobility, and that this classroom will become a sort of home for them.
Already in the first month of virtual instruction, students have demonstrated such an eagerness to learn, a desire to be creative, and a longing to return to school and see their friends and teachers. We will start learning in a hybrid in-person/virtual model at the beginning of October, and need to make sure our classroom is ready for the students who return and that we have the flexibility to adapt to whatever needs may arise.
In order to ensure that the classroom where students will spend their entire day is as warm, SAFE, and inviting as possible, we need your support!
Asking for funds to support:
- Sanitation expenses - $300
Though we will get some supplies from our school, we are seeking additional funds to ensure that our classroom is as healthy as possible. We need extra wipes, paper towels, all purpose cleaner, extra masks, hand sanitizer, and *a dream* HEPA filter ($250).
- Classroom decorations - $50
Right now the classroom is blank and lots of things that we used to decorate last year are no longer relevant. We are looking to buy posters/art for the walls, decorative border, nice lamps or plants to try to make our *cough* windowless classroom feel like a calming environment.
- Supplies for students - $100
In order to limit risk of the virus spreading, we are seeking funds so that students can have their own basic school supplies at their desks like desk organizers, pencils/pens, pencil sharpeners
- Tech support - $150
Technology is SO IMPORTANT in education right now, and we need some funds so that all of our students can have working headphones and (potentially) so that we can have a backup wifi hotspot.
We appreciate your help immensely during what has got to be one of the most difficult times to be an educator. We will send handwritten letters (save the USPS) to all of our supporters :)
