Support Mrs. Limaxes' Post Amputation Recovery

Hello everyone,
I am Mrs. Limaxes' granddaughter and I'm coming on here to give everyone a little update with her permission.
My grandmother has been receiving in-home hospice for about 2 weeks now under a fabulous care team including numerous doctors, nurses, and CNAs around the clock. As you all know and remember my grandmother, nothing has changed so I would like to make that very, very clear! Many of you have spoken to her in this time and have had no idea, which is the way she likes it. She still has her wits about her and can hold a conversation for hours talking about current events along with endless memories from her decades of teaching and experiences.

After a terrible fall this past week, having to be rushed to the ICU, we have been tirelessly working alongside doctors and her care team to figure out what the best possible outcome will be for her to live comfortably without the headaches she's been facing these past 4 years.

She will be receiving a below-the-knee amputation on her right leg.

Between the constant infections she's faced over the last 4 years, the countless amount of falls while trying so hard to maintain independence, bones not being able to heal properly and rebreaking causing more trauma all around. But right now, ultimately an open fracture that could potentially be life-ending... My grandma, myself, along with her team of doctors have decided it will be best to cut off the anchor that has been hindering so much of her life these last couple of years.

My grandmother wants nothing more than to be at home with my family and experience my little ones growing alongside her. After everything she has done for me growing up, I will honor my promise to her and do everything in my power to make sure she stays here at home with me alongside her hospice team to make sure she is as comfortable as possible.

I'm writing this here to ask for prayers on a successful surgery tomorrow. We have an idea of what this new journey entails for her along with myself and my husband as her caretakers. We are hoping this surgery will put an end to the tireless days/nights of her in agonizing pain and discomfort and allow her to be able to move comfortably again and enjoy her life again without the stress of constant worry something is going to go wrong every couple of months!

After a successful surgery, I am going to be coming around to making my grandma a GoFundMe page to help pay down some of her medical expenses as well as some much-needed medical equipment so she can have a safe discharge home alongside things that bring her joy and keep her comfortable.

I would like to just thank everyone who has reached out the last couple of weeks. Some I have been able to speak to and some I haven't been able to respond to yet. The last couple of weeks have been very hectic, this week topping them all especially with the holidays. We appreciate all family, friends, students, etc. reaching out. I will try and respond to as many people as I possibly can, just please be understanding of the situation and timing! With my grandma in the hospital about to go through such a major surgery, I would really like her to remain as calm as possible! I will be keeping everyone updated on some posts through the week on her Facebook!
Thank you again.
