Support Mr. Richard: A Neighbor in Need

Hello! My name is Karen Baxter, a resident of Southeast DC, and I have the most wonderful neighbor. His name is Mr. Richard. Since moving into this neighborhood, I’ve witnessed Mr. Richard helping his neighbors with their yards, porches, and any odd jobs around my property that I need done. Mr. Richard is very respectful and tidy. I always pay him because I know he’s on a fixed income. During the Summer, I found out that Mr. Richard did not have any electricity in his apartment. During that time, I told him that he could charge his phone using the outlet on my porch whenever he needed to and he would also charge his small fan. However when he came to charge his phone today (one of the coldest days in January thus far, I said “Mr. Richard, is your electric still off? He said “yes” it’s been 2 years!!! He’s been able to chip away at the balance, with the help of some of the charities in the area, but still has quite the balance to satisfy.

I would love to help get Mr. Richard’s electricity back on so he can be safe and warm in his apartment just like we are in our homes. I asked him to bring me a copy of his last bill and I’ve called to verify the amount due.
