"Growing up, my parents had three rules: Go to school, go to church, do your chores and enjoy life. For a time I strayed from my parents, and I've been through some trying times. During those times, and now, however, justice always prevailed.
Thank you for supporting me during this trying time. This will help me get back on my feet after a series of major setbacks, including living without water for several years, a fire that burned down my home, and suffering a stroke and temporary paralysis. The article in the Guardian shows how challenging this has been.
In some ways it's better I went through those things because it gives me a chance to help other people that's going through some tough times. Despite everything, I see it as a benefit. To people going through difficult time, I would say first don't give up. Always believe. Time is going to get hard, depression is going to set in, every avenue to try to make you give up is going to attack you. Always believe that sooner or later the situation is going to get better. Stay focused and stay strong and endure.
I believe that if people know about what I've been through, they will help me rebuild after this fire and this stroke. Faith has brought me through some trying times. A power greater than me has given me strength and protection to go this far. Thank you."
