Support Families Fighting for Justice

Families who have lost their children do to police violence need your support.  On April 9th families are due to arrive in Portland.  Originally these families were coming so mothers would have an opportunity to be on a video that would be sent the White House.  The video would have been of mothers talking about their children and the terrible ordeal that they have been through. Somewhere along the lines the gentleman who initially was sponsoring the event pulled the funds.  He claimed the money was no longer available.  Families has already booked their flights and would ultimately lose the money they had spent.  

Pacific Northwest Family Circle wants to continue with this event and bring everyone together.  We need your support with hotel cost for these mothers and families.  The event is close and we are scrambling to get the money.

 I know personally that the families really want to attend. It give everyone the opportunity to meet.  We are also planning a march April 10th to show solidarity among families.  We are also planning on discussing a national campaign among all families in this country who have experienced the same loss.  It’s important that all the families work together collectively to make the changing needed in our policing.  No mother or father wants anyone to go through what we have done through.   

I have personally experience the loss of a child due to police violence.  My son Bodhi Phelps was killed May 24, 2016, by two Gresham police officers.  Gavin Sasser and Kevin Carlson arrived to the call and with in 30 seconds my son was shot 11 times and killed.  He was only 22 years old.  Not only did these men kill my son as he ran away, they lied and altered the scene by moving my sons body and placing knives next to my sons body.  These men were not convicted.  There were so many discrepancies about their case.  They purposely allowed 5 to 10 police officers walk through the scene before securing it.  The narrative they told the press, and that you possibly heard was to protect what they did to my son that night.   We took them to court and they were again protected by qualified immunity.  This is why I work to changer the system and this why so many mothers do the same.  The pain that we all go through is excruciating.  The grieving process never ends.  Losing a child is so unnatural and so unfair.  Any amount of comfort is always welcomed and by donating this is exactly what you will be doing.  Giving us the opportunity to see one another and build something that will make much needed change.

We have realized that in order to make the changes needed  we must work together and this is why we have decided to continue with the event.
