I’m writing this for my husband, Mauricio (Maurice / Mo as some of you know him by).

Mauricio has lived with type 1 diabetes for 26 years and celiac disease for 14. In spite of that, he’s managed his health so well that he’s been in the top 5% of blood sugar control. He’s always been the one taking care of everyone else.

In December 2025, everything changed.

Severe, progressive pain in his left shoulder that he had been having since last spring made it impossible for him to keep working. What we thought was a shoulder injury getting worse turned out to be stage IV (4) lung cancer, even though he has never smoked, and it’s spread into the bones of his shoulder, causing bone destruction, hence the “shoulder pain.”

Mauricio is a chiropractor, a husband, and a dad to our two young boys. Six months ago, he was on the floor wrestling with them after dinner. Now, he can’t lift his left arm. Buckling our youngest into his car seat, carrying groceries, even turning simple doorknobs can send sharp pain through his shoulder. Overnight, our world changed: his health, his work, and our finances.

We are fundraising to help cover the costs of Mo's life-saving cancer treatment and to support our family during this challenging time.

Mo has spent his career helping people in pain, while managing his own health with extraordinary discipline. Asking for help like this is not easy, but right now, the medical and financial burden is more than we can carry alone.
