My name is Moriah Sellers and I've had an unfortunate employment stretch. Mental health difficulties led me to resign from my job, despite knowing how brutal the job market is for re-entry. I did finally come across what I thought would be a good fit for short-term work as I continued to search for something closer to my career path, but it turned out to be a scam. A very elaborate scam perfectly constructed to prevent me from seeking legal recourse to recover the $3,090 they owe me for my month's labor, and throwing a violent wrench into my plans to stay afloat. I have received some incredibly generous support to keep surviving in the meantime; however, these precious funds will not stretch as far as they could have due to yet another inconvenience happening at the same time.

I've been enrolled in a debt settlement program for the past couple of years, and it's gone well so far, other than leaving me with an exceptionally poor credit score. But on February 28th, two creditors who had previously never sent me any correspondence decided to simultaneously serve me court summons. I immediately turned everything over to my debt team, who thankfully handled it for me and were able to negotiate settlements for me with both lenders. However, the downside to this agreement is that my monthly payment to them has ballooned from $689 to $1,490 - and if I don't keep up with these payments from now through September, my program can't protect me and the agreement is void. I'm doing everything I can to satisfy this need by carefully budgeting the gifts my friends have given me - I'll be supplementing via my local food pantry to cut down on grocery costs - and starting a new, trustworthy freelance writing gig to hopefully cover this for the next month or two.

Thanks to some airline miles I had left, I have made arrangements to move back to Missoula, MT on May 16th. My future is uncertain, but I would rather spend it in a place I am much more familiar with - I previously lived in Montana for 14 years - is far more pedestrian-friendly, and I am deeply homesick for. With all that said as context for this fundraiser: my birthday is on April 10th, and this year I am asking for anyone who is able to chip in just a little to consider helping me cover some smaller moving expenses for when I get to Missoula. I'll need to pay for such things as:

  • PO box - $98 for 6 months
  • Storage unit for my suitcases - anywhere from $50-$100+ depending on whether a deposit is needed on top of 1st month's rent
  • Uber/taxi costs to the Lexington airport (I may be able to have a friend pick me up in Missoula)
  • Last-minute postage costs - in case I need to mail items I can no longer keep with me to friends
  • Food/personal hygiene/menstrual supplies - ya girl's gotta eat, and I'll start out with some products but would like to be able to replace as they are used up
  • Maybe a room to stay in for a couple of extra nights after arriving, so that I have a safe place to sleep to get caught up on energy that weekend (not a need but it would be nice)

I'm sorry to be another burden when there's so much other need in the world right now, and I'm sorry I don't have the strength that everyone else has that would've prevented me from getting into this situation in the first place. All I can say is, thank you if you're able to help out, or to at least pass the hat around. Thank you and I love you.
