Support Morgan’s Fight for Life After Surgical Complications
Donation protected
Hi everyone! We are the family of Morgan Lawler. As you may know, Morgan has struggled extensively with her thyroid since she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism after having her first baby, Brooks in 2019.
She had her entire thyroid removed on 1/28/25, and had been home doing well, until she suddenly wasn’t on 2/1/25. Her husband, Pat, rushed her to the ER, where after a few hours she stopped breathing altogether from unexplained swelling and a hematoma that formed around her thyroidectomy site. The Fort Dodge ER doctor saved her life by performing an emergency cricothyrotomy. A surgeon in Fort Dodge explored her thyroidectomy surgical site and removed a handful of blood clots.
She was life-flighted to the University of Iowa Hospital that night and arrived to a team of doctors, surgeons, and nurses who were ready to perform surgery on her immediately. They were able to remove and stitch up her cricothyrotomy and place a trach tube at her thyroidectomy site.
She remains in the surgical ICU where she has been medically sedated most of the time, but they were able to wean her off this morning and she responded appropriately. She is very uncomfortable and they are trying to manage her pain. She is not requiring mechanical ventilation at the moment and her vitals look good.
Many of you have reached out to ask how you can help. Please continue to pray for healing, strength, and answers for Morgan. Pray for the doctors, nurses and staff at the U of I. Pray for Morgan’s family, husband, and their 4 sweet children: Brooks, Mia, Leo, and Jett.
If you are able, please consider donating directly to this GoFundMe to help Morgan and her family manage the multitude of costs that they will face once she is healed. The recovery will be long and we are unsure how long they will be out of work for.
