In the early morning hours of October 29th, our world changed forever. My niece, Morgan Borzumato, was involved in a horrific car accident that left her with a traumatic brain injury, fractured neck and ribs, and a broken leg. Those first days were the longest of our lives. Doctors could not tell us whether Morgan would survive, and we were preparing ourselves for the unthinkable.
My name is Laura Shea, and I am organizing this GoFundMe on behalf of my brother Fred, Morgan's mother, Ruth, and our entire family. We are reaching out because our beloved Morgan is fighting through a long and difficult recovery after a devastating accident, and the financial and emotional burden has grown beyond anything our family can manage alone.
Against every expectation, Morgan began to fight her way back. In the earliest days—when she could not speak and her neurological condition was uncertain—Morgan used simple sign language to let her family know she was still there. It was the smallest gesture, and yet the most powerful moment of her recovery: she was still with us.
Since then, Morgan has healed months ahead of schedule, a testament to her strength and her will. She is now home, surrounded by family and constant love. But the road ahead remains incredibly challenging.
Morgan now requires extensive care, and her father Fred, her mother Ruth, her sister Lyndsey, and her brother-in-law Ford are giving everything they have—physically, emotionally, and financially. They are exhausted but determined. Still, no family can sustain this level of care alone. The family has already paid significant out-of-pocket costs while navigating insurance, and Morgan’s daily needs—therapy, medications, medical equipment, caregiving, and transportation—are ongoing.
Morgan still faces multiple major surgeries in the months ahead, including knee reconstruction, placement of a plate in her skull, extensive dental reconstruction, and possibly more as her team continues to assess her long-term needs. These procedures will bring additional medical expenses, long recoveries, specialized therapies, and equipment that insurance will not fully cover.
Your generosity will directly support Morgan’s cognitive, neurological, and physical rehabilitation, medications and ongoing medical treatments, transportation for frequent appointments, professional caregiving support to relieve the family, medical equipment and home-care necessities, and costs associated with her upcoming surgeries and recoveries.
Every contribution—large or small—makes a meaningful difference and brings hope, comfort, and strength to a family in the middle of one of the hardest fights of our lives. Thank you for supporting my niece, my brother, and our whole family. Your kindness means the world to us.
