Hello, I am setting up this go fund me to support Moonrise Sanctuary in the care of the sweet grey gelding we purchased for them from the kill buyers yesterday!

This is a HUGE ask and I will give you a bit of the backstory...

My daughter and I have attended these auctions for 10 years in hopes of helping as many horses as we could from the slaughter pipeline and sometimes people seek us out to tell us about a horse in the loose pen.

I was approached yesterday about a horse brought into the loose pen and if I could help him as they knew I did rescue work. I was told he is a teenage warmblood gelding that was formally a hunter jumper in MN. That he was bought for a beginner rider and was doing very well until some nasal discharge was noticed and they noticed he was not breathing out of both nostrils. Owners did pursue a work up on him at University where his nasal cavity was scoped and some bloodwork was done. A mass was found in his nasal cavity and sinus. A head CT was recommended to see the full scope of the mass. Estimate for removal was above 5k and could be more depending upon the severity and aftercare. This was well beyond what the owners could do... so the poor soul ended up in the loose pen at auction. At this point I was approached by the shipper to see if I could help.

Moonrise Sanctuary had reached out to me that morning saying they could have room for one more gelding ideally under 17 and available to do light riding. Over the past 8 years I think I had brought back 3 donkeys and 3 horses to Moonrise. Definitely a heavenly place for horses to land with excellent care and light work.

I asked if they would be willing to take this gelding but we didn't' get confirmation until he had sold through the ring and was in the hands of the kill buyer so we had to pay extra to get him at that point.

It was important to me that he go to a non profit, as I know it is likely our best chance at fund raising for his surgery and care!

So, I am asking those that follow us and our work, to support Moonrise Sanctuary in this sweet geldings care. without, euthanasia would likely be the kindest.

I have set the fundraiser goal at 7k an upper limit for his care to hopefully get all of his needs covered. I have 7k followers... maybe everyone can donate a dollar? many hands make light work.
