Hi, our names are Jacelyn and Brandon. We adopted our sweet boy Moon Pie (sometimes we call him Miel or Mielcito as well) a little over two weeks ago. When we brought him home on August 15th, he was the sweetest and cuddliest boy ever. He loved to sleep in the bed between Brandon and me. He loved Tiki Cat wet lickable treats. He was so playful, he loved playing with his sister Marbles, and overall, he was the best cat we could have ever asked for. He and Marbles truly complete our little family.
On August 23rd, we had to take him to the emergency vet due to him being lethargic, not eating, and not having any energy (we had to carry him to the litter box and to his water fountain). The vets diagnosed him with an upper respiratory infection and sent him home with fluids and medications. Unfortunately, he was not getting better. We took him to the vet again on August 26th. He was given more medications, but we still had no answers as to why he was not responding to any of the medications.
Finally, thanks to his care team on August 28th, they were able to confidently diagnose our baby with Feline Infectious Peritonitis, or FIP for short. FIP happens whenever a kitten under the age of one contracts Feline Coronavirus (yes, kitties can get COVID) and it mutates into FIP.
Previously, FIP has been thought to be a death sentence to cats, but thankfully there are oral treatments and injection treatments. Brandon and I have opted to do injection treatments to help stabilize him as soon as possible!
If you can, please buy our kitten an injection shot!
