Despite the many hardships that Monty faced in life, he has always met those challenges with a smile and grace. For better or worse, he will always be tied the crash of Alert resupply airplane BOXTOP22 on 30 Oct 91. Enduring close to 40 hours in an Arctic blizzard, he suffered a fractured skull and lost his fingers and most of his toes to frostbite. He will admit to one day of self-pity, but every other day since he has used his energy to be a positive force in the world. A proud Navy member of the Canadian Armed Forces Communications Research trade, a world leading analyst at the Communications Security Establishment, and an active member in the leadership of the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE), Monty made a difference.
As he faces his final battle with cancer, Monty needs our help. Monty has been moved into palliative care at the Embassy Senior Living Facility on Carling Ave in Ottawa, and costs are a staggering $8200 per month. While the VAC, and insurance will cover a some of that, there will still be significant costs that his family will have to bear as the end of his life draws near.
If you knew Monty, please think of him. If you are able, please consider a donation to this GoFundMe page. Any donations beyond what is required to cover Monty’s medical bills, which will be taken care of by his son Morgan and wife Beth, will go toward a charity that has been chosen by him and his family.
Thank you.
