Supporting Education in Rural Laos
Hello, I'm Monique Yang, a Hmong refugee from Laos who found success through education. After arriving in America and starting school in the 3rd grade with no prior education, I benefited from public schools, which ultimately led to a fulfilling career supporting my family. I firmly believe education unlocks doors to a brighter future.
Now retired, I'm committed to giving back. Inspired by a young Hmong man's dedication to educating children in his village, I'm compelled to share my story and invite support.
The Story
While browsing social media, I discovered a YouTube channel featuring a young Hmong man's efforts to educate local children in a village without any English schools. Despite facing immense challenges, he initiated a GoFundMe campaign, built a two-room school (at the moment, no running water or plumbing) and volunteers daily to provide basic English to 20-40 students. His selflessness, despite struggling to support his own family, touched my heart. Here's a video of Mr. Xiong's teaching the children on his Facebook account: https://fb.watch/vf_znSBE08/
My Commitment
In January 2025, I will visit and volunteer my time and expertise to help teach basic English to these children.
With your support, I will provide other vital items as necessary, such as clothes and shoes, since there were some children without shoes.
How You Can Support
To enhance their learning experience and well-being, I kindly request your support in the following ways:
- Financial contributions
- Educational/teaching materials
(language books, grades K-6, used is fine)
- Backpacks
Your generosity will have a lasting impact on these young lives. Together, we can make a difference.
Thank you for considering supporting this worthy cause.
Sincerely,
Monique Yang
