Help Monique Get Urgent Medical Care & Safe Housing
My name is Monique Smith, and I am currently alone in Bangkok, Thailand. I am originally from the United States in Atlanta, Georgia.
I urgently need to receive critical medical care. Over the past eight weeks, I got sick out of nowhere. I have been battling serious health conditions, including pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, severe anemia, and iron deficiency disorder. My D-dimer test results came back 7 times higher than the critical level, which runs from 0-500. My results were 3,467, which is critically dangerous. I have also been diagnosed with a severe genetic blood clotting disorder (Prothrombin) and currently have multiple blood clots, including a blood clots in my legs and lungs. I need immediate treatment to start dissolving the clots so I can safely return to the United States for proper medical care. I also need another iron transfusion, a biopsy, a stool sample test and several other test before they can even begin treatment. These test cost anywhere from $400 usd and up. That’s just the test. I have a lot going on that came out of nowhere so they are trying to figure it out and it has become very expensive.
Healthcare in Thailand requires upfront payment before treatment is given, regardless of the severity of the condition. I had an emergency iron transfusion 2 weeks ago that cost me over $1,000 USD, which left me with several other appointments , test, and medical procedures left un taken care of and left me unable to afford the medication I need to even start getting better. I haven’t been working much since I fell sick almost 2 months ago. Right now, I simply cannot afford the care I need. My financial resources have been depleted due to my ongoing illness. I went to the cardiovascular surgeon on this Wednesday, April 2nd, and had an ultrasound on both of my legs. The blood clots in my legs are breaking down and are slowly starting to dissolve and the swelling in my legs are slowly going down. He wants to run another blood test in the next two weeks to see if they dissolve and if my numbers are low enough, I will be cleared to fly back to the US for further medical attention. He was very concerned about all the spots on my legs and arms which resemble T-cell lymphoma. They have been showing up very aggressively covering my feet, legs, and arms. He referred me to the dermatologist for the biopsy. I’m praying hard that it’s not cancer because I lost everyone in my family on both sides to cancer.
I am asking for your help to raise $20,000 to cover urgent medical expenses (please keep in mind that GoFundMe takes a large percentage of the total I’m asking for so hopefully I will still raise enough to cover all my medical expenses after the goal has been met). My priority is getting the necessary treatment to stabilize my condition so I can travel home safely. I DO HAVE INSURANCE, but I still have to pay out of pocket and wait to be reimbursed.
Any contribution, big or small, will make a huge difference. I am incredibly grateful for any support you can provide. If you are unable to donate, please share my story with others who may be able to help.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please keep me in your prayers.
