My name is Micah Slocum…. Let me tell you about my best friend, Monica Adesamni. She has lived in the United States for 34 years. She arrived at 7 years old in 1992, grew up here, built her career here, bought her home here. Right now, through no fault of her own, everything she has built is at risk. For over 16 years, Monica has been navigating the U.S. immigration system, patiently waiting to adjust her status and obtain permanent citizenship. While she’s waited to adjust status, she lawfully obtained a work permit that allowed her to continue to live and work. She has done everything that she knows to do and has followed every rule.
⚠️ WHAT HAPPENED?
In January 2026, the U.S. government implemented a pause on visa issuances for nationals from several countries, including Nigeria, where Monica was born. This policy decision — entirely outside of Monica’s control — meant that when her work visa came up for renewal in March 2026, it could not be processed or approved.
Overnight, Monica went from a lawfully working professional with a stable life to someone facing a deeply uncertain future — uncertain employment, uncertain housing, uncertain everything.
This is not a story about someone who didn’t try. This is a story about a system that pulled the rug out from under someone who played by every rule for nearly two decades.
WHY WE’RE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP
With her visa renewal blocked, Monica is now facing a financial crisis that is not her fault but is very much her reality:
✅ Mortgage and living expenses with no clear income path
✅ Immigration attorney fees to fight for her status and explore every legal option available
✅ Lost income while her work authorization is in limbo
Monica has poured so much into this country, this community, and the people around her. Now it’s our turn to show up for her.
WHAT YOUR DONATION DOES
Every dollar donated goes directly to helping Monica:
✅ Keep her home and cover essential living costs
✅ Bridge the gap while she fights to restore her status
✅ Fund experienced immigration legal support
This is a temporary crisis with a real path forward — but she needs support to get there. No amount is too small. Sharing this page is just as powerful as donating.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and donating
