Support Monica's family after her passing

Donation protected

This GoFundMe is to support the family of Monica McGovern during this time of heavyhearted loss and grief.

Monica McGovern was a mother, sister, and grandmother; her loss is being felt immensely across her family and community.
Please read the beautiful tributes below, written by her sister, which captures how giving and loving Monica was (traits that were clearly passed down to her children and grandchildren), as well as some words written by her daughter, Cassandra.

Unfortunately, her passing has left her daughters and grandchildren, who were her dependents, in need of some financial support while in this current transitional time.  Between transportation, food, bills, celebration of life expenses, and the accumulated expenses over the past year when her daughters and grandchildren were acting as caregivers, Monica McGovern’s family needs our support. Grief counseling is also an extremely important aid that this fundraiser will help pay for, to ensure that Monica’s passing will be processed by her descendants in a healthy way.

If you can contribute and/or share this campaign, it would be greatly appreciated.

Rest in Power, dear Monica <3

“With profound sadness I'm sharing the news of my dear sister Monica's passing. After a long struggle with diabetes and a very short battle with ovarian cancer she passed away peacefully. Monica was blessed to be surrounded by her family the last couple of months as she faced her death with Grace and Courage. But she was tired. My sister was the oldest girl in our family and was a natural caretaker to four younger siblings. She raised her three girls as a single mom. While raising her girls she returned to college and she worked for many years as a counselor for Project Parent. She provided parenting education, counseling support and advocacy for families. In the evenings she ran a weekly single mother support group. She also worked in residential care settings for people with developmental disabilities. When her failing health required her to retire she continued to volunteer for ACORN, advocating for better housing and wages for the poor and focussing on social justice issues. Monica's home was always open to friends and family in need.  Many young people stayed and benefited from her emotional support and advice. Monica had also spent many years raising her grandchildren. She can now rest. Our family and Community is feeling a great loss at her passing. We know she's finally at peace, so the greatest tribute is to know she gave her life to those around her. She loved and was loved. She will be forever missed. I love you Monica until we meet again. XO”

“It's been 1 week today since you departed from this earthly realm.

It really hit me last night as I cried myself to sleep.  I had a real feeling of despair in my heart.  I honestly did not feel like participating in this earthly system, I wanted to be with you.

As a small child I was wild, excited about life, always jumping, climbing and running away....only because I knew it was safe to do so because you were my anchor.

Now here I am, still in this earthly body, with so much that I am supposed to do for my family and my community....and my anchor is no longer here...it's hard.

But thankfully I know that it is not just about this earthly realm, I've known since I was a kid...with Attention Dialed Into Higher Dimensions....I am wild, sensitive and able to tap in.

Thus I can still feel you as my anchor, yet now from a Higher Realm, and I will try my best to continue the work that you so gracefully and selflessly did, even though I know that I could only manage a small fraction of what you could juggle, as you are the Queen Matriarch.

Thank you for saying hello and goodbye to me last week as your spirit used electricity to communicate that you are alive and well outside of your body.

And thank you for walking up to me in my dream yesterday, on your two healed legs, looking all bright, shiny, healthy and smiling.  Letting all of us know that you are doing just fine

To my family and community, please keep my mom and your hearts, thoughts and prayers as she continues her journey to Divine Source!

Momma, my love for you is eternal .”
