Support Mona's Emergency Medical Bills and Transport Home

My name is Cindy Bower and I am starting this funding for a longtime friend of mine, Mona Laiche.

Last week, we were halfway through a cruise in the Caribbean when Mona got violently ill on Wednesday, October 30th. The physician on the ship said we needed to take her off the ship to have her checked out at a better-equipped facility in Barbados. After various tests, it was recommended that she be sent to the hospital. Early the next morning, she had emergency major surgery on her intestines and colon. Mona's lungs were already compromised from a botched surgery 2 years earlier, so the operation has taken a bigger toll on her lungs.

She is healing fairly well with the exception of her lungs, which will take some time to get better, so she will remain in ICU for now. Her doctor said she is not strong enough to take a regular flight back to New Orleans and said she needed to be transported via medevac; otherwise, she might have to remain in Barbados for an extended period of time.

Luckily, we had trip insurance, but there is a $50k limit on the transportation and the cost is $62k. There are also some medical expenses her insurance company will not cover. We are fundraising to cover the additional $12k for the medevac and the uncovered medical and travel expenses.
