Hi, my name is Sharon Gauchier I am the daughter of Darlene Walker. I am here to ask for support for my mom during one of the most medically challenging times of her life.

My mom Darlene has recently been diagnosed with Stage 5 Kidney failure after being diagnosed with and acute kidney injury caused by complications with Diabetes. Her kidney function is currently at a 13% with signs of no positive progression or healing and struggling with finding the right medication, to help ease her pain and quality of life.

As part of her diagnosis her treatment will require travel to and from Slave Lake to Edmonton. She will now be starting life sustaining dialysis, receive medical care, and attend regular appointments at the kidney clinic. At the same time we will be starting the process of evaluations for a kidney transplant and assessments for potential donors for those wanting to see if they are eligible.

These trips are essential, but they come with significant expenses including fuel, accommodations, meals, parking and support while figuring out the logistics of her financial situation. The travel will be frequent and ongoing, and the costs add up quickly, creating a heavy financial strain on top of the emotional and physical toll of her illness.

My mom is strong and doing everything she can to navigate this, but she shouldn’t have to worry about how she’ll afford to get the life saving care she needs. We’re asking for help to cover travel and related expenses so she can focus on her health, dialysis treatments, and the hope of finding a kidney donor.
