My name is Shelby I am asking for support for my mom Kathy. She was recently diagnosed with stage 2 hormone positive HER2 negative breast cancer!
She will be going in for surgery one February 9th. She is having a bilateral lumpectomy with full reconstructive oncoplasty. Which to put it simply is a lump removal and reconstruction of both breasts!
After surgery she’s looking at a minimum of a couple of weeks of recovery before we meet with the surgeon for her post op evaluation which is on February 20th, if she’s healed enough to be released from surgical care then she will be moved to medical oncology care to start radiation therapy which will be 5 days a week in Austin and for those of you who don’t know Austin is an hour away. Unfortunately there is no one here in our area that does radiation treatments. This will go on initially 5 days a week for 4-6 weeks! In addition to everything else, she will need to take hormone suppression medication for the next 5-10 years!
Total recovery time will depend on how she does with surgery and IF there are any complications with surgery or her treatment plan! Unfortunately this means a LOT of time missed from work for both of us! Anything raised will go toward medical bills, and treatments.
Prayers are definitely appreciated as we do our best to navigate the next few months!
UPDATE 2/9/26: The surgery was yesterday and went ok. They removed the large mass and 5 smaller masses that were hiding from imaging and 3-5 lymph nodes on her left side. On the Right side she removed a small mass. The reconstructive aspect went well. The Dr said she is hopeful the margins will return negative but until we get pathology back in a week we won’t know for sure! She did say the cancer is a bit more advanced than we originally thought. If the margins are not negative then a second surgery will be required!

UPDATE 2/14/26:
we spoke with the surgeon yesterday and she informed us the mass they removed from the right side is also malignant (positive for cancer), unfortunately the margins on her right side are not clear, she will need a second surgery! We meet with the surgeon again on the 20th to discuss further! Now more than ever we could use your help. The medical bills will no doubt be astronomical! And definitely continued prayers are absolutely welcomed!
