Hi, we are Jack and Julie. We rescued an amazing kitten named Momo this summer and he has become the light of our lives. He’s the most playful, affectionate, and crazy kitten and we couldn’t love him more.
On December 22, we took Momo to the vet because he had a swollen tummy. He was diagnosed that day with FIP, a rare and extremely serious virus caused by a genetic mutation resulting in an infection that causes his body to fill with fluid. Up until only about a year ago, this condition was considered 100% fatal, with no treatments or cures. Now, however, there is a miracle drug currently being studied at UC Davis that is showing incredible promise and has become a lifesaving option for cats affected by FIP.
This drug, being so new and in short supply, is extremely expensive and hard to come by. To be cured, Momo needs a daily injection for 84 days, as well as numerous vet visits to check his blood to ensure he’s on the mend.
Just three months ago, Julie tragically and unexpectedly lost her amazing mother. It’s been the hardest time in our lives and Momo has been and continues to be one of the few shining lights of joy in our lives as we try to navigate the brutal grief of her loss. When we found out about his diagnosis, it’s hard to find the words to describe the depth of overwhelming feeling. The only saving grace is knowing we have the opportunity to save his life through this new miracle treatment.
To anyone who is able to help, we are so unbelievably grateful. There are lots of cats with FIP and we hope to spread awareness of this medication and give hope to other cat parents who have to go through this.
