Please Support Molly as She Battles StageIV Cancer
Please support our dear friend and fellow Guelph homeschooling Mama
Molly Green Hutchinson (she/her), dear friend to many and fellow Guelph homeschooling mama to 10 year-old Celeste (they/them), has an incredibly difficult fight ahead of her. Molly was first diagnosed and treated for triple negative breast cancer (a rare and particularly aggressive form of breast cancer) in 2018. In June, 2021 she had a terrifying episode where she was suddenly unable to speak despite being able to think clearly of what she wanted to say. Thanks to quick thinking action by Celeste they were able to contact Molly’s sister who got her to the ER, where it was discovered she was having seizures. After several CT scans she learned that she not only had lesions in her brain, but also in her liver and lungs. Further testing has since confirmed that it has spread from the triple negative breast cancer she was previously treated for. This is heartbreaking news for all who know and love Molly, and especially for her child Celeste.
Triple-negative breast cancer is considered to be especially aggressive and can have poorer outcomes than other types, mainly because there are fewer targeted treatment options in allopathic medicine. Molly is hopeful and determined to do everything she possibly can to carry on while maintaining an acceptable quality of life, and that means exploring extraordinary options in addition to the suggested course of treatment. The costs associated with her care, as well as loss of income mean that she is facing the possibility of financial hardship on top of her cancer diagnosis.
Molly has had radio-surgery for the brain lesions (a type of focused radiation which targets just the tumours and not the entire brain) and this week she will begin chemotherapy. She has understandably left work to focus on her health and to spend quality time with her family and so we (her friends) are asking for help. Please consider supporting them during this incredibly stressful time. All contributions will help cover the costs associated with Molly’s treatments, transportation to and from appointments, care for Celeste while Molly is away and their dad is at work, meals, etc. There is also a meal train organized for them, which can be found here https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/qmemol
In Molly’s own words; “I'm feeling extremely scared and sad and angry and anxious. My body is feeling weak and my spirits are up and down but down a lot of the time. I want to be present for Celeste and doing as much as I can with them and I believe strongly in the power of collective well wishes to help boost me! So, if you are meditating or praying and can send me some of that I'd be so grateful. If you hear of some therapy or treatment for triple negative breast cancer, send it my way! If you have a funny video that you think will lift my spirits, fire it off!”
Thank you for reading this and for any support you can offer.
