My good friend Moises has, for five years, pursued a PhD in nanoscience at UNCG but now faces a combination of serious health challenges. His stomach issues, which began in November 2024, developed into painful temporal mandibular disorder. Now he endures intense nerve pain in his pelvis. The pain in his lower body has been constant and unrelenting since November 2025, and while he is currently doing physical therapy, the root cause is still unknown. Moises' path to recovery is currently scheduled out for six months but is expected to continue for a year. These health issues have made it extremely difficult for Moises to continue his studies and research, despite his determination to graduate with his doctorate.
Moises and I first connected over our shared love of music, history, religion, and language. Over the past five years, he has dedicated himself to pursuing a PhD in Nanoscience, working tirelessly in a lab to research drugs with potential anti-cancer benefits. For the past year, Moises has been at Wake Forest, testing these drugs on several types of breast cancer and successfully finding an effective treatment that does not harm healthy cells. Alongside his demanding research, Moises has volunteered his time teaching English as a second language, always giving back to his community.
Moises is here in the United States on his own, with his entire family living in Peru. Since 2024, his father has been bedridden and unconscious, and Moises has carried the emotional and financial burden of caring for his father from afar, traveling back and forth whenever possible. This added stress has only contributed to his health problems. Please consider helping Moises continue his work by contributing to his medical expenses and ensuring that his basic needs are met. Your support will help Moises manage his medical expenses, living costs, and allow him to focus on his health and studies during this challenging time.
