Support Mohammad Gaafer's family
My name is Mohammad Gaafer, and I am a Sudanese photographer, deeply passionate about visual storytelling, documentary photography, and street photography. Through my work, I have always sought to capture the human spirit its resilience, struggles, and quiet moments of strength. But now, the story I must tell is my own.
I was born and raised in Omdurman, Khartoum, a city that shaped me in ways I could never forget. I studied Information Technology at Omdurman University of Science and Technology, but my true calling came through photography a craft I taught myself with unwavering passion. Over the years, I have dedicated myself to telling stories that matter, believing that even the simplest moments, when framed with care, reveal profound truths.
But the war in Sudan changed everything.
When the war erupted, my family lost everything. The home we built, the memories we cherished, our belongings, and the life we spent years building gone in an instant. My parents, two sisters, my sister’s husband, and their five young children were forced to flee, leaving behind their entire lives. They found temporary safety in the UAE, hoping to rebuild, but survival there has become another impossible battle.
My brother-in-law lost his main source of income, and with no financial stability and growing debts piling up, staying in the UAE became unsustainable. The weight of it all the fear, the uncertainty, the hopelessness pushed my family to make an impossible decision: they have no choice but to return to Sudan.
But returning home is not simple. The war is still ongoing. There is no home waiting for them, no jobs, and no resources to start over. The journey itself is expensive, and once they arrive, they will have to rebuild their lives from nothing.
I wish I could do more for them, but I am now in the Netherlands, seeking asylum, and my ability to support them is limited. That’s why I am reaching out, asking for your support.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. It will help to settle their accumulated debts and cover their travel back to Sudan, food, rent, and basic necessities so they have a chance to survive. If you cannot donate, sharing this campaign could be the one thing that connects us to someone who can.
My family is running out of time, but with your help, they don’t have to lose hope.
Thank you for standing with us.
