HELP TROY PENCE REGAIN MOBILITY AND INDEPENDENCE
Hello, friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters!
We’re reaching out to share the story of our dear friend, Troy Pence, and ask for your help in giving him the opportunity to reclaim his independence and mobility.
Troy is a beloved artist and community member in Joshua Tree, California, who has inspired us all with his resilience and creativity.
Troy has faced extraordinary challenges throughout his life, but with our collective support, we can help him navigate the next step in his journey—a journey that involves four life-changing joint replacement surgeries.
TROY’S STORY
Troy’s story is one of strength and perseverance. Diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis at just 8 years old, he has spent his life battling this rare and progressive disease that has relentlessly attacked his joints. Over the years, arthritis has stolen much of his ability to use his hands, walk, and live the life he dreams of.
Despite this, Troy has never let the disease define him. His passion for art—especially his breathtaking scrap metal sculptures—has fuelled him to continue creating beauty in the world. His art is a testament to his resilience. But now, as his arthritis has severely impacted his ability to walk, Troy is ready for the next step: joint replacement surgeries that could give him a chance at independence and mobility once again.
Troy is not just an artist—he’s a friend and a constant source of positivity. He’s the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, always smiling, always encouraging. His kindness has touched so many of us, and now it’s our turn to give back and help him regain his freedom.
THE ROAD AHEAD
Troy’s journey to recovery will begin on December 12, 2024, with his first hip replacement. He will face a second hip replacement, followed by knee replacements in the months to come. While the surgeries themselves are covered, the journey is far from over. There will be immense recovery needs, home modifications, and caregiving costs that will be overwhelming for him to manage alone.
This is where we need YOU.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Donate to the Campaign
We are asking for your financial support to help Troy prepare for his surgery and ease the burden of his recovery. Funds raised will go directly toward:
1. Home Modifications
It is crucial we remodel Troy’s bathroom. This remodel will include an accessible walk-in shower area, a functioning sink and toilet. Making these essential upgrades will ensure his safety and comfort during the long recovery process.
Labor Costs:
• General Contractor
• Plumber
• Electrician
• Carpenter
• Drywaller
• Painter
• Tiler
• Flooring Specialist
• Handyman
• Masonry
• Accessibility Consultant
Materials:
• Plumbing fixtures, drywall, paint, accessibility hardware, and other essential building materials needed for the remodel.
2. Nighttime Care
Hiring caretakers to assist Troy during his recovery, particularly during the night, to ensure he has the help and support he needs.
We are aiming to raise $20,000 to cover these vital expenses and ensure Troy’s home is ready and accessible when he comes home after surgery.
Volunteer Opportunities
If you’re able to donate your time or skills, we’d love your help in the following ways:
• Home Preparation: Help us clean, organize, and pack up Troy’s home before his surgery, making it a safe and accessible environment for his recovery.
• Skilled Labor: If you have expertise in remodelling, drywall installation, painting, or deep cleaning, your time and skills would make a huge difference in speeding up the process.
We need both hands and hearts to make this happen, and every little bit of help counts. If you’re interested in volunteering, please email us directly through this campaign—we’d love to hear from you!
WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
As much as we rely on the kindness of volunteers, we also know that there are limits to what can be done without the help of professional contractors and labourers. To ensure Troy’s home is safe and accessible before his surgery, we must hire skilled workers to complete these vital renovations quickly and properly.
We are asking for your generosity to raise $20,000 to cover the costs of labor, materials, and essential home modifications. Your contributions will directly impact Troy’s recovery, giving him the foundation he needs to heal and regain his independence.
EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS
We know that every dollar is precious, and whether you can give $5 or $500, every donation brings us one step closer to getting Troy back on his feet. We can’t do this without you, and your generosity will truly make a difference in his life.
Troy has given so much to his community through his art, kindness, and spirit. Now it’s our turn to give back. Together, we can help him rebuild his life, regain his mobility, and continue creating beauty in the world.
Thank you for supporting Troy. We’re so grateful for your kindness, compassion, and generosity.
